Mark and Jac have created a garden of such subtlety and beauty for us, it brings us pleasure every day and a walk around it in the quiet of the early morning can really soothe the soul. They really care about us and our garden. They are really talented & creative, designing gardens of simple sophistication. They are also great people who are friendly & helpful & are very much prepared to get their hands dirty & do the hard graft required to prepare the land & plant a garden. We have been touched by how they have also lovingly tended it for us in its first year of being, caring very much that it establishes well & looks its best. It has been a difficult brief with quite unique bespoke needs requiring safety, privacy & accessibility built into it. Mark & Jac have worked with us on this project spanning several years (including through the pandemic) from when we first acquired the site through the designing & building of a new house to completion and they continue to maintain and develop the garden today with great care and attention to detail. We knew that we wanted a house that brought the outside inside and a garden was very important to us. It had to be able to combine a mix of several functions but also work as a whole. Those functions included a courtyard which screened areas from overlooking, outside seating areas, accessible play & therapy areas, vegetable & herb gardens, an orchard & sheds & storage. We knew that we wanted Mark & Jac to design it for us & for them to be involved from the start. M&J spent time on site prior to the house being designed putting in boundary hedging in some areas & getting a feel for the site & its vistas in all seasons. Their input was very valuable when we started to design the house, particularly with respect to views & sight lines from the house. Their ability to quickly sketch layouts was really helpful. They were also able to design & specify hard landscaping in various zoned areas & boundary treatments which contributed to the planning application process as well as specifying outside lighting & watering systems. M&J have been very good at listening to our needs & interpreting them. They have got to know us & our personal likes & dislikes & have done their absolute best to give us the outside space & garden that we wanted whilst also making sure that when we look out of our windows the views are stunning too. They have produced very detailed plans for us for both hard landscaping & planting. Their attention to detail on paving areas has really paid dividends for the finished look. The planting plans incorporate our favourite plants but layer in other plants very skilfully in terms of form & colour and have been carefully planned to take account of succession of flowering through the seasons. There is new interest in the garden almost every single day. During the difficult pandemic year they took control of managing the project - designing, sourcing & overseeing production of storage items, water tanks & climbing structures. They have owned the garden & taken responsibility for it making sure it was finished to the highest of standards. They have sourced the majority of the plants in the garden & taken particular care when choosing specimens making sure they were of good structure & habit. They have prepared the ground & planted every single one of the plants with great care & attention to the juxtaposition of plants & the overall look & colour combination of beds, that is true dedication. We are truly delighted with our garden. It is all down to the dedication & care taken by Mark & Jac to make our dream come true.
